- 05. What is safe browsing and how do I display the preview window?
-
Simply mouseover the preview icon next to a text or image link and a preview window instantly
appears with the linked content. No more clicking back and forth!
A green preview icon indicates the page is safe for viewing.
A red preview icon indicates the page is not safe. Please do not mouseover the icon or click the link because it may be linked to a phishing page or a page containing viruses or other malware. If you do, a warning message will be displayed to let you decide if you want to visit the unsafe page. HHOTT View uses Google safe browsing feature (API) to display safety rating on each link so you can browse the web safely. You can disable the safe browsing feature by selecting (unchecking) Enable Safe Browsing in the HHOTT View toolbar menu. Once disabled, the blue preview icon will be displayed for all links. If safe browsing is enabled but Google safe browsing feature is updating or not working properly, a gray preview icon will be displayed. If it is updating, it will take a few minutes and the preview icon will return to green after the update is completed. It may be OK but please be cautious to mouseover the gray preview icon.
- 06. Can I disable the preview feature but keep the safe browsing feature?
Yes! You can. To do so, you need to uncheck "Enabled Preview" and keep "Enable Safe Browsing" checked in the HHOTT View toolbar menu. With this setup, you will see a safe rating icon when you mouse over a safe link, an unsafe rating icon when you mouse over an unsafe link, and a broken icon when the safe browsing feature is updating or not responding. Mousing over any of these rating icons will not display the preview window.
- 07. I don't see the HHOTT View button in the toolbar area of my IE browser. What should I do?
You can watch this flash demo or follow the steps described below.
Internet Explorer:
- Make sure that you have enabled third-party extensions in Internet Explorer by selecting
Tools->Internet Options->Advanced. Under Browsing, select Enable third-party browser extensions.
- Make sure that you have not disabled the HHOTT View add-on by selecting Tools->Internet Options->
Programs->Manage Add-ons or right clicking the IE browser toolbar bar area and selecting HHOTT View in the dropdown menu.
- 08. Why can't I see the preview icon?
-
If you mouseover a text or image link and do not see the preview icon, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- The page has not been completely loaded - The preview icon will only show when you mouseover a text or image link AFTER the page is completely loaded into your browser.
- The text or image is linked to the javascript code - The preview window can't execute the linked javascript code and hence you don't see the preview icon when you mouseover such a link.
- The preview option was turned off - Please click the HHOTT toolbar button in the brower toolbar area and make sure the Enable Preview option is checked in the dropdown menu.
- The HHOTT View Add-on is not installed - Please right click the IE browser toolbar bar area and make sure you find the HHOTT View in the dropdown menu and it is checked. If you don't see the HHOTT button in the toolbar area, please check the FAQ above this one. If you just installed the Add-on, please open a new IE browser window and right click browser toolbar
area and make sure HHOTT View is checked in the dropdown menu. If you have not installed the Add-on, please visit the Download page to download and install the free Add-on.
- 09. Can I move and resize the preview window?
-
Yes! You can click and drag the preview window title bar area to move the preview window to anywhere you want.
You can also click and drag the borders or corners to resize the preview window. HHOTT View works best if you have a large
monitor or you use two monitors and move the preview window to the second monitor.
- 10. Can I lock the preview window?
-
Yes! You can click the Unlock/Lock icon in the preview window title bar area to lock/unlock the preview window.
When the preview window is unlocked, it will disappear by itself after 3 seconds if the mouse is not within the preview window or on top of the preview icon. When the preview window is locked, it will remain visible until you click the close icon in the preview window title bar area.
- 11. Why do I see multiple preview windows?
-
You see multiple preview windows because HHOTT View displays a separate preview window for
each browser window or browser tab to keep the browsing context for you. You can, for example, preview all
the photos in a Flickr page in one preview window and at the same time preview all the YouTube videos in a
YouTube page in another preview window. Obviously, you need to have a large monitor or multiple monitors to take advantage of this unique feature.
- 12. Do the pages visited through HHOTT View appear in the history?
-
No! The visited pages do not appear in the history. However, you can use the Back or Forward button to go back or
forward one page at at time.
- 13. Can I bookmark the page displayed in the preview window?
-
Yes! Just click the Add to Favorites icon button in the title bar area to bookmark the page.
- 14. How do I keep my HHOTT View up to date?
-
Whenever a new update is available, you will be informed via a popup message to download and install the new update. With this auto update feature, your copy of HHOTT View is always up to date. You can also select "Check for Update…" from the HHOTT dropdown menu to check for the update at any time.
